Industry NewsToyota Ireland returns as Premier Sponsor of Special Olympics Ireland until 2028
Toyota Ireland has been named Premier Sponsor of Special Olympics Ireland in a renewed partnership running until May 2028, as reported by Sport for Business, reconnecting the Irish motor distributor with one of the country's most prominent inclusive sporting movements.
The agreement covers support at both national and local levels, with a focus on community engagement, athlete recognition and the promotion of inclusive sport across the island of Ireland.
The partnership has historical roots. Toyota was among the primary sponsors of the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games held in Ireland, the first time the Games were staged outside the United States. The renewed deal reconnects the brand with that legacy ahead of this year's Ireland Summer Games, which run from 18 to 21 June 2026 and will see more than 1,200 athletes compete across 12 sports.
Toyota Ireland will activate the sponsorship through a national radio, digital and digital audio campaign running from 4 to 21 June, built around the theme of "Why the Special Olympics is special." The campaign will draw on athlete stories to encourage public attendance, volunteering and support.
The partnership will also be activated through Toyota's network of more than 41 dealers across Ireland, extending the sponsorship's reach into local communities to celebrate athletes and raise visibility for Special Olympics Ireland nationwide.
Steve Tormey, chief executive of Toyota Ireland, said the partnership reflected the company's broader values. "For Toyota, this is about bringing our Built for a Better World commitment to life in a style that has real meaning, supporting a national movement that creates opportunities for athletes to be recognised, celebrated, and included," he said.
Karen Coventry, CEO of Special Olympics Ireland, said the partnership aligned with shared values. "We are delighted to join forces with Toyota, who share our commitment to innovation, community, and inclusivity," she said. "Together, we look forward to having a real impact and a positive difference in the lives of the people and communities we support."
Toyota became a Global Partner of Special Olympics International in 2017, underpinning an international relationship that has included transportation support and activation around major Special Olympics events worldwide.
