Sentry Insurance relocates PGA Tour title sponsorship from Kapalua to Torrey Pines

Wisconsin-based Sentry Insurance has moved its PGA Tour title sponsorship from the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Hawaii to the North and South courses at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California, with The Sentry tournament scheduled for 27 to 30 January 2027 in what represents a significant shift in one of the PGA Tour's season-opening sponsorship arrangements.

Hawaii Public Radio reported that the move fills a vacancy left at Torrey Pines after Farmers Insurance did not renew as title sponsor of the San Diego event, while Sentry's departure from Kapalua follows the cancellation of the 2026 tournament due to a water dispute on Maui that prevented the Plantation Course from being prepared in time.

Sentry had been title sponsor at Kapalua since 2018, with the event evolving from a winners-only field into a tournament incorporating the top 50 players in the FedEx Cup standings.

Brian Rolapp, CEO of the PGA Tour, said the tour is proud to build upon the legacy and long-term philanthropic impact at Torrey Pines, a course that has hosted elite competition in San Diego for 75 years and PGA Tour events for 60 of those years, including two US Open championships in 2008 and 2021.

Marty Gorsich, CEO of the Century Club of San Diego, the organisation that will continue to run the tournament, described Sentry as a longtime partner of the PGA Tour and widely known for its reputation for impactful community engagement.

The Sentry will be the second tournament of the 2027 PGA Tour season, played one week after The American Express in La Quinta, California. The tournament will conclude on Saturday to avoid a scheduling conflict with the NFL's conference championship games.
