Power NI renews Make It Happen sponsorship for table tennis star

Power NI and the Mary Peters Trust have renewed their backing of Northern Ireland table tennis prospect Peadar Sheridan through the Make It Happen initiative, providing £2000 to support his training and European competition schedule.

The funding enables Sheridan, a Year 11 pupil at St Malachy’s College in Belfast and a member of Ormeau Table Tennis Club, to prepare for major 2026 events, including the European Youth Series tournaments in Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina and the European Table Tennis Union’s Top Ten event in France. He will also attend a three-week training camp in China, recognised globally for its elite table tennis programme.

Sheridan has established himself as one of the region’s top young athletes, representing Team GB youth, Ireland, and competing in senior British and Swedish leagues. Last year he won the Under-15 titles at the Raiffeisen Youth Championships in Austria and the Prague Grand Prix in the Czech Republic, recorded a 100 per cent winning record at the Junior British League, and claimed medals in seven out of nine World Tour events.

William Steele, Director of Power NI Customer Solutions, said that the award celebrates the achievements and potential of young athletes across Northern Ireland and reflects the company’s long-standing partnership with the Mary Peters Trust.

Lady Mary Peters highlighted that the funding is vital for emerging athletes to progress and seize new opportunities. She noted that Sheridan is a spirited young star who works incredibly hard and is expected to reach new milestones in his career.

Sheridan described the support as the final piece for his 2026 plans, giving him confidence and opening new opportunities as he prepares for a successful year.
