US financial services company JPMorganChase has entered a multi-year partnership with the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, becoming the club's new jersey patch sponsor. The agreement combines a high-profile branding opportunity with community programmes and business initiatives across North Texas.

According to NBA, the partnership marks the first time JPMorganChase has signed a jersey patch sponsorship with a professional sports team. The agreement also includes collaboration on community programmes, support for local entrepreneurs and enhanced fan engagement at the American Airlines Center.

The partnership will give Chase a visible presence at the Mavericks' home arena, including a dedicated entrance for eligible cardholders. The bank will also become the presenting sponsor of the Mavs Business Assist programme, delivering workshops and programming designed to support early-stage businesses.

Pauline Saunders, chief control officer at Chase, said: “We are proud to stand alongside the Mavericks and invest in the community as it continues to grow – and excited about what all of this mean and what impact we’re going to create.”

She added: “First, they are an amazing franchise. We have long admired them. And for us, it goes back to the things that make the partnership work – where we can provide our customers with value and also the fact that we have shared values. Giving back to the community is big for the Mavs and it’s big for us.”

Rick Welts, chief executive of the Dallas Mavericks, said: “We did have a shortage of suitors because we weren’t interested, honestly, in talking to anybody other than Chase. It’s pretty unusual the way this came about. From the time we started our discussion with Chase, we knew this is where we wanted to land.”

He added: “But for us, Chase represents something very different. They’re like a pillar already of our community. One of the best known brands in the world. There wasn’t anything that wasn’t right about it. We actually were not out shopping this.”

The agreement succeeds the Mavericks' six-year jersey patch partnership with Chime and further expands JPMorganChase's sports sponsorship portfolio, which includes naming rights, Olympic partnerships and investments across basketball, football, motorsport and sports finance.
